Hi Jen,

Thank you so much for your note! My mother also was diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal! Yes they say that the disease most likely started in the ovaries and is very similar and for that reason we have always referred to it as such. My mom was 52 when she was diagnosed and died 7 days before her 54th birthday. I am so glad to hear that there is a group dedicated to PPC! Thank you for your work within the PPC community! I send big hugs your way as I know your loss is deep and so recent. I can also relate with how sad it is to lose other friends like Martha to this disease. I have experienced to much loss of great women who fought the good fight. Something has got to change! Lets keep in touch!

It has been a little over a month following my third trip to Washington D.C for the OCNA conference. This conference is sponsored by the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and is filled with opportunities to gain information on the latest research and treatments, network with other survivors or supporters and also advocate for the disease.

This year was absolutely a wonderful experience on so many levels! The first year I attended with my mother, one of the most fond memories that I shared with her was walking around capitol hill and speaking with the politicians demanding change for this disease. The second year was made in honor of my mother as she had died 6 months earlier. This year was ver empowering and purposeful.

I was amazed and encouraged to meet so many wonderful daughters who attended the conference! What a force we are in the face of this disease! We have heavy hearts, fresh faces and fighting spirits determined to change things in honor of our mothers and in dedication to the next generation of daughters who are cheering us on! Looking forward to all the great work that this group is capable of!

Please post your ideas about September awareness month and what you are doing in your communities. I will be calling all television stations and newspaper editors today to ask who would be interested in a piece about OVCA awareness and womens health.

My mom passed away a few months ago from something similar to ovarian cancer...primary peritoneal cancer just 3 days after her 62nd birthday. This is a rare cancer with symptoms being just about the same as ovarian. They currently treat it also just as ovarian cancer. The 2 are definitely tied together...the founder, Andy Kinnceom of the PPC Foundation have become friends of mine- and Martha (his wife) just ended her battle at just 50 years old this weekend.

This is a great idea- to being all of us together for support & raise awareness.

Thanks for listening,
Jen
